Sal DiCarlo takes down Event #9 for nearly $40k.
Cherokee, N.C. (April 23, 2016) -- Sal DiCarlo has won Event #9 - $580 No-Limit Hold'em to earn his first WSOP Circuit gold ring and the top prize of $39,938. The poker pro from Las Vegas added his first victory to his impressive WSOP resume full of close calls and deep runs.
"It feels good man. It feels like a monkey off of my back you know," said DiCarlo.
DiCarlo had reached five WSOP final tables before this one, but had never been able to find the luck to come out on top. This season alone, DiCarlo has a second place finish and a third place finish on the Circuit.
DiCarlo only plays a limited schedule on the Circuit, but is still going to finish as one of the highest point earners on the season because of all of his deep runs. He currently has 195 points, which puts him in 5th on the season standings. He plays the Vegas events and Los Angeles events because they are close to home. He also plays some of the bigger events on the Circuit schedule such as Choctaw, Hammond and Cherokee. He pretty much skips everything else.
One of DiCarlo's most notable cashes was a final table finish in the 2013 World Series of Poker. DiCarlo finished 3rd out 1,731 entries in a $1,500 WSOP event in Las Vegas for his largest score ever of $184,914. DiCarlo will be back at the series this summer to play a full slate of events.
"I plan on playing a lot. I feel like I'm in a nice little groove right now," said DiCarlo.
He will try to keep the momentum going from this year's Circuit to the summer series and try to win his first bracelet and earn a second career six-figure score. Maybe his first seven-figure score too if things go really well.
