Christopher Fisher Wins First WSOP Circuit Ring in $580 No-Limit Hold’em Event #4

Cherokee, North Carolina (August 8, 2016) – Day 2 of Event #4 started with 22 players, and over the course of ten hours, it played down to a winner. Christopher Fisher, a recreational poker player and full time Finance Manager for Ben Mynatt Buick GMC car dealership in Concord, NC, took down his first World Series of Poker Circuit ring, and the $33,242 top prize.

Fisher came to Cherokee for the weekend because he did not have to work, and he only planned on playing this one event. He used to play poker more frequently, but since becoming the Finance Manager of the car dealership, he is only able to play two to three times a month. When he arrived here at Cherokee, he actually tried talking himself out of playing.

“I drove up yesterday and I was trying to talk myself out of playing because I haven’t run real good here (at Cherokee). As a matter of fact, this is the only place in North Carolina that I am down. Prior to today, I was down $7 to $8,000 because I started playing here when the World Series stops started running in 2013. I kept telling myself I am going to go back and play one event each time, so that hopefully I can get a good hit and get some of my money back,” Fisher said with a chuckle.

Other than a big bluff Fisher pulled on his heads up opponent for a one million chip pot, he credits his win mostly to playing solid, and not making many mistakes. Fisher explained “I do this for fun. I hang out with a lot of guys who take this very seriously, but I do it for fun. I make my living selling cars. I was by far and away not the best player at the final table. But I just didn’t make a lot of mistakes, and that’s what I credit it to.”

Fisher had a rail of friends and supporters encouraging him throughout his final table appearance. Steven Snyder, Erik Gorman, Matt Emmel, Ken Taffaro, and Chris Shaw, just to name a few, kept in constant contact with him either sweating him live, or sending him messages of encouragement. He also credits all of this friends and supporters for helping him win today.

With his hectic work schedule, it will be difficult for Fisher to play more events at this stop. He said that if he can find a one day event or a turbo to play, he may be able to sneak it in. But for now his only plan is to buy his wife Lindsay into the Main Event that starts on Friday August 10th.

“It’s just an amazing feeling. It’s the money, it’s the recognition, you know…it’s just an amazing feeling. You could do this for years and never win one of these things. And it doesn’t mean that you’re not a good poker player if you don’t win one of these things. It’s a validation of sorts, but it certainly doesn’t change the way I view myself of course. I am just excited," Fisher concludes.
