Soheb Porbandarwala Wins First Circuit Ring and $124,456 in Foxwoods Re-Entry Event

Mashantucket, Connecticut (August 22, 2016) – After three days of play, Soheb Porbandarwala has just bested a field of 1,443 to take down the $580 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry event at Foxwoods Casino. This is Porbandarwala's largest score to date, and prior to this win his World Series of Poker earnings totaled $8,566. After today he adds an additional $124,456 to that number.

Porbandarwala is a part time poker player that focuses mostly on cash games, saying that he plays about 75% cash and only 25% tournaments. He is also a family man, married to his wife Afreen, and loves spending as much time as he can with his two daughters. When he does play poker, a lot of it is online and in local home games. 

"I prefer not to travel for poker, even to Foxwoods. I don't like being away from my home and my two daughters any more than I have to be. I also don't play many tournaments because they are too time consuming," Porbandarwala explains.

Coming into the final table on Day 3, Porbandarwala was 4th in chips out of the ten remaining players. The theme of the final eight players was essentially, "Double up the short stacks."  A lot of chips were transferred back and forth over the first few hours of play, but Porbandarwala was not involved in many of the exchanges early on.  His climb to the top really began with eight players remaining when he doubled up after rivering a king high flush holding    against his opponent's   . The other big hand that he felt really helped to push him to the top was a double through Sean Carlson    vs.   . He flopped two clubs, and then rivered a flush, taking the monster chip lead at that point. He then proceeded to knock out all of the remaining players; Zach Donovan in 4th place ($43,009), John Caputo in 3rd place ($56,573), and Sean Carlson in 2nd place ($77,201) earning himself the title and the ring.  

"I feel really great," Porbandarwala said, "I would really like to thank my friends for always telling me that I am better than I actually am, and my family for their support in everything that I do."

At the conclusion of this event, Andrew Lauer in still leading the Foxwoods Casino Champion race. Lauer won Event #1, the $365 No-Limit Hold'em on Friday, and then took down Event #3 ($365 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo) yesterday, giving him a total of 100 points.  But with eight more ring events to play out at this stop, it's still anyone's game. 

The player who accumulates the most overall points in the twelve gold ring tournaments at Foxwoods Casino earns the title of Casino Champion, and receives an automatic entry into the $1 million 2017 WSOP Global Casino Championship. The winner of the Foxwoods Main Event earns an automatic entry to the Global Casino Championship as well. All players who cash in ring events will receive points that apply to both the Casino Champion race and the season-long race to claim one of the 50 at-large Global Casino Championship bids awarded to the top point earners throughout the season.
