DePersio earns $30,000, his first WSOP Circuit gold ring and takes head of steam into the Main Event.
Event #4 winner John Vale records second final table of 12-day series, takes Casino Championship lead.
West Palm Beach, Fla. (September 25, 2015) — Event #9 of the World Series of Poker Circuit at the Palm Beach Kennel Club concluded Friday afternoon alongside Flight A of the Main Event. Topping the 100-player field in the $1,125 buy-in event was Parkland, Fla.’s John DePersio. For the effort, DePersio earned $30,000 as well as 50 points toward the Casino Championship and his first Circuit gold ring.
In comparison to the $365 prelims, Event #9 attracted a higher caliber of player. DePersio bested a field that included the defending champion Kristopher Bradshaw, bracelet winner David Diaz, four-time ring winner Sam Panzica, three-time ring winner Daniel Gilmer and others. The in-the-money field included Florida pro Darryll Fish (11th), Bradshaw (fifth), Orlando Romero (third) and two-time ring winner Mark Fisher (second).
Despite the talent of its players and a top-heavy prize structure, the event played out in a flash. The field narrowed from 100 starting to just two remaining following 21 levels of Day 1 play. Action resumed the following day with more than 125 big blinds still up for grabs and plenty of room left for play. DePersio held a slight advantage over Fisher, but it was truly anybody’s game.
With the highly-regarded main Event playing out behind them, DePersio and Fisher bet and raised like they had somewhere to go. In the end, it took just 30 minutes for DePersio to eliminate Fisher second and come out victorious. The runner-up finish sent Fisher home with $18,542.
In addition to DePersio’s victory, the tournament yielded one other major headline in regard to the Casino Championship. Event #4 winner John Vale recorded his second final table of the series ultimately finishing fourth. On top $9,590, he earned 27.5 points toward the Casino Championship bringing his total to 95. That number helped leapfrog then-leader Cody Pack’s 87.5-point pace and placed him firmly at the top through nine events.
