The tournament, along with all the preliminary events, is being held this year in the spacious
Events Center. The remodeled and re-branded hotel casino (formerly Grand Casino Tunica) underwent a $45 million remodeling last year, with the most significant addition being the Paula Deen buffet featuring signature dishes of the Food Network star.
Marquis names playing in the main event included Chris Moneymaker, Gavin Smith, Bill Edler, "Captain" Tom Franklin, Kathy Liebert and Sabyl Cohen-Landrum (the highest woman finisher at the 2006 WSOP main event). Also playing were a couple of prior Circuit Championship winners Mark Smith (2006, Casino Grand Tunica) and Wilbur Futhey (2008 Caesars Indiana). In addition there were two husband and wife entries: David and Stacy Kopacz and David and Dina Rylander.
Moneymaker, who finished second in the $400 no-limit event here three days ago, was out within a couple of hours when his pocket kings lost to a set of jacks made by Justin Truesdell, winner of yesterday's $1,000 no-limit event. The day ended with Franklin, Smith and Liebert among the only name players left.
Play will resume at level 12 with blinds of 1,500-3000 and 400 antes, 49 minutes left on the clock.
