HARRAH'S CHEROKEE KICKS OFF 2018/2019 WSOP CIRCUIT SEASON
A record-breaking 2018/2019 World Series of Poker Circuit season kicks off with 28 anticipated stops
August 1st, 2018 (Cherokee, NC) - The first stop in the 2018/2019 World Series of Poker Circuit season begins at the beautiful Harrah's Cherokee Hotel & Casino. This marks the 15th season on the Circuit, with 28 stops on the schedule with revamped structures, a change in buy-ins and 50% more chips in most of the events.
This stop in Cherokee, North Carolina is the first of three at this extremely popular venue. The difference in this opening series is it features the much-anticipated Global Casino Championship, awarding a coveted gold WSOP bracelet. Qualifiers from 2017/2018 WSOP Circuit season include Main Event winners, Casino Champions and the Top 50 players in the overall points race. Additionally, the top 100 players have the option to buy in for $10,000 with the WSOP adding $1,000,000 to the prize pool. This year, the GCC takes place from August 7th-9th with updates found right here on WSOP.com.
Looking ahead to the schedule in the coming 12 days, festivities kick off on Thursday, August 2nd with the $400 Double Stack with $50,000 guaranteed in this one-day event. Moving into the weekend is a whopping $500,000 guaranteed $400 event with multiple flights and unlimited re-entries. The rest of the week includes buy-ins ranging from $250 right up to the $1,700 Main Event and the $2,100 High Roller. Impressively, each and every event also includes a guarantee, with the Main Event looking to surpass the $1,000,000 guaranteed to be paid out, and the $2,100 High Roller handing out at least $100,000.
Last year, three-time WSOP Circuit winner Sean Yu officially became a bracelet winner after taking down the GCC for $296,941. He topped a field of 124 tough contenders and a prize pool of $1,090,000. Yu has qualified yet again and looks to defend his title, but has a ton of competition to get through, including nine-time Circuit winner Robert Hankins sitting atop the leader board, and the likes of current ring leader Valentin Vornicu (12 rings) and Maurice Hawkins right behind him with 11 rings.
The last stop at Harrah's Cherokee has Dylan Wilkerson defending his title as the Main Event champion, taking home $294,152 topping a field of 1,060 entries. Look for this Main Event to be another big showing as players look to get off to a hot start in their quest to win some hardware and qualify for next year's Global Casino Championship.
