J.W. Lorett Takes Down the Monster Stack for First Circuit Ring ($27,853)
Monster Stack Winner J.W. Lorett
Supported by a massive rail behind him, J.W. Lorett took down the $365 Monster Stack in his hometown in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is Lorett’s biggest score worth $27,853, along with his first ever Circuit ring. “It feels great. I really started playing poker when the Hard Rock opened (2009). Ever since, I have never left. Except to go to Choctaw and some other big tournaments.”
Lorett has made many final tables in his time but he said to a couple of other players: “This is the hardest final table I’ve ever been on.” He came in to the final table with one of the top stacks and managed to hold on. “It was very tough. I was down and then back up, down and then back up again. It was done on a lot of instinct. I’ve always said, any two cards can win” exclaimed a smiling Lorett.
The newly-crowned champion defeated Mark Van Keirsbilck after calling a shove with pocket tens. Keirsbilck tabled ace-seven off-suit and Lorett held on to take down the pot and the tournament.
The final table was a stacked one, with poker player and strategist Mike "Mad Genius of Poker" Caro finishing in fifth place ($7,041) for his first cash since 2009 after a long hiatus. Start-of-day chip leader, and eventually final table chip leader, Eric Bunch finished in sixth place for $5,389.
