Winner’s Reaction
After securing her second WSOP Circuit ring, Gladys Landegger admitted the win caught her by surprise. “I was playing for second when we were three-handed,” she said. “This is unexpected.”
One of the biggest turning points came when she shoved pocket fours preflop against Ace-King suited. The flop was dangerous, showing Queen-Jack with two spades, giving her opponents a ton of outs. But the board ran clean, and she suddenly found herself with a big boost in chips. “The flop was horrendous,” she said. “She had like 20 million outs. Somehow, I survived.”
Even with that big hand, her path to victory wasn’t easy. The final table was a grind, and she had to battle through several swings in chips. She doubled up two different opponents and was struggling by the time heads-up play began. “At one point, she took the lead, and I really thought I was playing for second,” Landegger admitted. “But things finally went my way.”
She had nothing but respect for Louise Francoeur, who pushed her to the limit in a long heads-up match. “She’s a very, very good player. She knew what she was doing,” Landegger said.
Now, with another ring in her collection, Landegger plans to get some much-needed rest. “I’m exhausted,” she laughed. “I need a break today, but I’ll be back for the Seniors event tomorrow.”
